The Paintbox and MTV both launched in 1981 and many of these idents were created on Paintbox
Though not all music videos were created on the Paintbox, it was no coincidence that the first ever winner of the MTV Awards was You Might Think by The Cars. The video was also among the first to be put in the permanent collection of MoMA.
and of course Dire Straits and Sting want their Paintboxed MTV videos...
