Use A Quantel Paintbox
If you want the Paintbox Experience, we have two exclusive options:
No. 1 - The Real Thing!
There is nothing like picking up Quantel's first ever pressure-sensitive stylus and creating a new piece of art on the actual OG digital studio that changed the world. We can bring a V-Series Paintbox to your studio, exhibition or museum. We also have exclusive access to the last complete working "Classic" paintbox in the world, located in Los Angeles.

I can load any image onto the Paintbox, then you will be shown how to use it by OG 80's artist, Adrian Wilson and be able to output your work onto video, still or Polaroid style print.
No. 2 - Authorized AI versions on your Mac, iPad or iPhone!

We are proud to announce the release of three
QUANTEL OFFICIALLY APPROVED
AI Vibecoded versions of the video Paintbox, bundled into one single app:
The 1981 Digital Fine Art prototype
The 1982-1989 Classic Paintbox
The 1989-2002 V-Series Paintbox
Recreated by 80s and 90s Quantel Paintbox artist, Mike Parsons, months have been spent refining the original programs using Claude, with input and advice from a group of
original Quantel engineers and
OG Paintbox artists to get close to the feel of the originals but using modern hardware. This freeware is the closest you can get to a Paintbox, with no fear that you are being disrespectful to the original engineers, or are using any of Quantel's Copyright, Trademarks or Intellectual Property without permission.
Deconstructing or cloning the original software would have been much easier but is both unethical and illegal.
To make completely sure that those who made it had the first opportunity to raise any objections, we publicly launched it in Newbury where it was invented, with former Quantel staff at the Dolphin Pub where they would go for (an often liquid only) lunch. We were so delighted that George Catlow, the genius who created the Paintbox prototype's software, was literally the first to use our AI version of it and his face perfectly conveys how he felt using the software 45 years later.
Also present was the founder of MicroConsultants/Quantel, Sir Peter Michael, Quantel's first employee, Peter Owen and Paul Kellar, who solved the riddle of how to make a 16bit paint system work at the infamous "Eureka Meeting" in 1980!
Click the red text to download a zip of the programs - the Mac version is even more realistic if you use it with a Wacom tablet. Note they are Mac OS only, have been approved by Quantel on condition they are not for commercial use and will be updated with any bug fixes you tell us about...
